Black Box Thinking

Black Box Thinking is a fascinating book that looks at how much better we (as individuals, as teams, as organisations) could be if we were to notice, analyse and celebrate our failures – rather than seeking to sweep our failures under the carpet and look at them as something to be embarrassed by.

Syed shares examples from many industries who don’t do this well (such as the medical industry) and those who do (such as aviation and sport) and the astonishing impact that it has,

He points out that it is not enough to learn from our mistakes – it is about celebrating our mistakes because when we fail we are more likely to be able to progress. He describes that it is only in that moment, when we fail, that we have the incentive to want to change and think or act differently.

It is in that moment that we can achieve our best creative thinking.

Quote from the book

Only by redefining failure will we unleash progress, creativity and resilience
